The Non Contemporary Travel Methods

Traveling is a luxury for some and a way of living for others. Regardless of where you fall in the spectrum, it should always be enjoyable. There are a few different ways to travel outside of the typical hotel stay. If you haven’t tried some of this out, I’d recommend you try it!

Airbnb

I have stayed in over 30 different homes and I loved every unique experience. You have the option to book the entire apartment, private room, or even a shared room if you really want to save some money. Sometimes when you book a private room you end up living with the owners or long term tenants and sometimes you get to live with other random strangers traveling. I;ve stayed in bed and breakfast type airbnbs, hostels, and even airbnbs targeting business networking. Regardless, I’ve found almost all my experiences great in their own way.

Motel

There are always cheaper options than your fancy Ritz Carlton or Marriot. But with low price comes low quality. I’ve stayed in some cheap places I’d never go back to. Sometimes you can be looking at a dirty bug infested bed with no working AC and only cold water running and you wonder if the $10 savings was worth it. All I am saying is use with caution. I’d check out the motel before booking.

Hostels

Okay so you are either an advocate of Hostels or you are not. If you aren’t because you tried it and did not enjoy it, I’ll be rather surprised but won’t say more. If you have not experienced it, then stop the bullshitting. I don’t care if people might think it is not very lady-like or if it might be “not safe”.  The experience is absolutely wonderful and it’s filled with other wonderful people who love to travel. Hostels are communities that advocate travel, networking and adventure. If you are extra picky, you can stay in private rooms with private bathrooms for an extra fee. I think the shared rooms would give you the full experience and save you a few bucks. As a guy I wasn’t worried about going to my first hostel, however I was traveling with a female friend. I totally see the worries about how women can feel unsafe but if you choose a top rated hostel with a good community (in a populated area helps) you’ll feel right at home. My friend ended up loving the hostel and made some great friends through it.She definitely would have opted out of the hostel experience if she traveled alone, but my constant relentless badgering paid off. She caved for the experience and made lifelong memories in the process.

National State Parks

Camping in a state park is an experience everyone needs to do. This is especially recommended for the city folk. Most state parks allow you to camp overnight. Each site will specify what kind of overnight camping is allowed and sometimes require reservations in advance. Some will ask for a small fee (usually for parking) but it usually is only a few dollars.

Tent Camping

You pack a tent, sleeping bag and sleeping mat and you are all set! If you are on foot, lightweight gear is gold. It matters less when you can pile it in the trunk of your car. Make sure you pack plenty of food and water for your stay. I always carry camping gear on my motorcycle so I can camp as I please.

RV Camping

Rv Camping sales in 2020 have gone up exponentially. These home on wheels come with a kitchen, bathroom, and a bedroom all together! These can cost a pretty penny. Rv camping basically allows you to travel the country without any worry of not having a home. With a portable house, you can basically constantly stay on the road.

Van Living

Living in vans has slowly grown its own following, Vans have gained the upper hand over cars because you can put a mattress in the back and have yourself a bed. There is a growing online presence of people living in vans. A youtube star, Susi Cruz, is a female blogger who lives in her van. She has made it her home and styled it to her preference. She travels and documents her journey on Youtube.

There are a few famous bloggers/vloggers who are prominent in their travel niche. I write about my favorite travel bloggers in every travel style

Traveling requires planning, but it also requires an open eye for adventure. Traveling comes with difficulty, learning to embrace the challenges and look for things that peak your curiosity. Travel without booking a hotel room, do things differently, take time to learn about yourself.
